Working with the team at Heliguy provided us with a real insight into the unique combination of designers, manufacturers and operators of large UAV’s within the film and TV industry. Specifically the complexity that goes in behind the scenes of aerodynamics and manufacturing tolerances required in the design and build of cinematic drones.
Keeping weight to an absolute minimum was a high priority to increase all important flight time. In an industry where seconds can capture that all important shot.
Rectangular motor arms were therefore chosen by C-Tech to maximise stiffness gains in multiple orientations, whilst also optimising strength to weight ratios.
The accuracy of the drone motor axis relied upon very square outer tube faces resulting in strict design tolerances for the outside face of the square tubes.
This is something mandrel wrapped carbon tubes aren’t well known for. However through developing internal processes, C-Tech achieved and excelled at meeting these strict tolerances.
