Finn mast bends

Matching bend test numbers

The C-Tech mast is available in 5 weight ranges to suit each Finn sailor's requirement. From the super soft to the super stiff.

70 - 80 - 90 - 100 - 110 Kg's

Specific bend numbers for each weight range are available on request.

C-Tech will endeavour to meet bend test numbers provided by customers to within +/- 5 % for luff-round measurements, +/- 10 % for tip deflection.

Instructions for bend testing an existing mast are given below:

Calculating bend test results for an existing mast

Support the mast at a height that will prevent the tip of the mast hitting the ground when the 12kg weight is hung from it.  Fix in place at the butt allowing the mast to rest on the collar (as it is held by the mast step and deck of the boat).

Mark point A (tip of the mast before weight is applied).

Place a 12kg weight on the tip of the mast at the measurement band.

Mark point B for sideways and fore & aft deflection.

Take a taut string from the top of the bottom measurement band (D) to the bottom of the top measurement band (C).

Measure the distance in millimeters between the string and the mast at 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 of the distance CD.  Measurements must be taken both sideways and fore & aft.

Bend test results should be recorded as follows:

Tip deflection

(AB)

Fore & aft

Sideways

Camber (CD)

1/4

1/2

3/4

Fore & aft
